Mrs. Allie Ruth Dudley died on Christmas Day, December 25, 2015, at North Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born Allie Ruth Thompson in Meridian on January 23, 1926. She spent 42 years working for Marks Rothenberg Department Store, where she was a buyer in the ladies ready-to-wear department. She often traveled to New York to bring the latest fashions to the ladies of Meridian. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Meridian.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Ruth Covert and her husband Mike, of Meridian; her grandson Richard Covert and his wife, Carla, and their sons, Duncan and Blake, of Benton, Ark.; and her granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Steel and her husband Michael of Miami, FL.; Sister, Dorothy McAlister of Meridian; her brother, L.V. Thompson, JR of Greensboro, NC.; Mrs. Dudley is also survived by the children, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren of Lt. Col. Dudley, including Larry Dudley and his wife, Dottie; Candy Ward and her husband, Robert; Vicki Dial and her husband, Dee; and Jackie Bunyard and her husband, Clayton.
Mrs. Dudley was preceded in death by her parents, L.V. Thompson, SR. and Lucille Busbee, her sister Kathryn Eloise Thompson, and her husbands, James A. Rogers, C.R. Thomas and Lt. Col. Lawrence M. Dudley.
There will be a private family service at Magnolia Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Meridian or to a charity of your choice.
