Funeral services for Mrs. Audrey Burkhalter will be held Saturday at 2pm in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home. Rev. James L. Balliet will be officiating. Burial will follow in Long Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Burkhalter, 86, formerly of the Dalewood Community in Lauderdale, passed away at her residence in Natchez on Tuesday.
Family and friends will remember her as an accomplished pianist who was a caregiver to everyone. She always put others before herself. Mrs. Burkhalter retired from Newton Co. Bank after 20 plus years. Family remembered that even after her retirement, she always received a Christmas gift from the bank. She was a member of Newton United Methodist Church and after moving to Dalewood she was affiliated with First Baptist Church in Lauderdale where she was active in numerous church activities and Sunday school classes. Mrs. Burkhalter was also a member of the Eastern Star, Newton Chapter 65.
She is survived by her son Jeff Burkhalter (Julie); brother Robert D. Kittrell and "special son" Mark Balliet (Kelly). Mrs. Burkhalter also leaves grandchildren Nancy Whittington (Alex), Laura Beth Burkhalter (Richard Iannazzo); step grandchildren Melissa Bryant (Devin), Justin May (Jana); great grandchildren Beau Whittington, Sutton Whittington, Zaide Paine, Asher Burkhalter; step great grandchildren Stratton May, Cara May, Aiden Bryant; nieces Hailey Kittrell, Jeffery Lynn Wiggins; nephew Buddy East (Barbara); great niece Sarah Kathryn Rhaly, Ashlynn Rhaly and great nephew Joshua Jones. She is also survived by cousins Robert and Shirley Broadhead, Zana Webb, Allyson Whobrey, Greg Webb Jr., Tommy Kittrell and Betsy Rutledge.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt appreciation for special caregiver GeGe Davis and the staff at Hospice Compassus.
Mrs. Burkhalter was preceded in death by her parents Robert Lee and Beatrice Kittrell; husband Larry D. Burkhalter Jr; sister in law Kathy Kittrell and special friend Louise Walton.
Pallbearers will be Alex Whittington, Devin Bryant, Stanley Merritt, Kelley Barlow, Alton Ogden Jr. and Chauncey Cavin. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Craven and Ferrell Kingsafer.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Mrs. Burkhalter to Blair Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson, MS or St. Jude's Children Research Hospital in Memphis.
