Memorial services for Barbara Jean Argo Bradbury will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, June 11 at St. Patricks Catholic Church with Father Cosgrove officiating.
Mrs. Bradbury died on June 1 at her home in Meridian after a four year battle with cancer. She was born on August 27, 1943 in Creighton, PA to the late Mary and Benjamin Argo. She attended East Deer High School. After high school, Jean joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Bainbridge, MD and Pearl Harbor, HI. She met her husband, Jonathan, in Pearl Harbor and they married in Hawaii in 1966. She served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 until 1966 and spent the next 30 years supporting her husband in his career. Their military career took them to many ports including, Hawaii, Washington, DC, the Philippines, Meridian, MS, Mayport, FL and New Orleans, LA. It was in Meridian where Jean chose to make a long term home. She fell in love with Meridians charm and friendly community, and it became home for her and her family starting in 1981. While here, she became involved with the Navy Wives Club, for which she coordinated and hosted their 50th Anniversary Convention at the Naval Air station and was active in running the Navy Relief Thrift Store on the base. Her volunteer work extended from coordinating refreshment stands for the Northeast High School Boosters Association when her son was in high school, to donating cakes and cookies for two of the local hospice associations. Her involvement in volunteer activities in her adopted hometown will be sorely missed at the Meridian Activities Center, by her friends at AARP and her friends and family at St. Patricks and St. Josephs churches.
Jean is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years Jonathan Paul Bradbury her devoted and loving son and daughterinlaw, Jeffrey and Susan Bradbury of Washington, DC her caring sisterinlaw, Deborah Bradbury of Hatboro, PA, and cousins Cheryl and Keith Kehl of Gilbertsville, PA.
She is remembered by her friends and family as a loving and caring person. Jean was devoted to her family and deeply loyal to her friends. She always sought to make things better and more beautiful for those around her and assist those in need of help. She wished to be remembered by and thank the doctors and staff at Anderson Hospital and Anderson Oncology Center, especially Doctors Gibson, Halbrook, Durgan and Green and their nurses and all who helped her fight the good fight. The family also wishes to thank StaHome hospice services for their kind and loving attention.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, June 10, at the Webb Funeral Home.
