Betty Barber

Visitation for Betty Jean Keyes Barber will be held Tuesday, October 4th at 9:00am at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home Downtown followed by a 10:30am graveside service at Burwell Family Cemetery with Dr. Raymon Leake officiating.

Mrs. Barber, 88, formerly of Meridian, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 in Coppell, Texas with her daughter Amy, beloved niece Kim, and her caretaker Rossana by her side.

She was a 1952 graduate of Meridian High School and completed business college courses at Meridian Junior College. She worked at Commercial Credit and continued her career as a secretary at Calvary Baptist Church and Winstead Realty. She obtained her real estate license and spent the remainder of her career working as a real estate agent at Winstead Realty for more than 20 years.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she and her late husband taught Sunday School in the nursery for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Amy Barber of Coppell, Texas; a brother Esse Harold Keyes of Meridian; and Emily Alger (Bill) of Houston, Texas.

She was a proud aunt to numerous nieces/grandnieces, and nephews/ grandnephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Vince Barber; her parents, John Prentiss Keyes and Mabel B. Keyes; sisters, Cecilia K. Woodham, Nell K. Wright, and Mary Alice Skelton; and brothers, Dr. Prentiss F. Keyes and John Keyes.
