Betty Jo Mayo

    Betty Jo Mayo, 88, of Meridian, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, February 15, 2025, at James T. Champion Nursing Facility.

    Betty was born to Theodore Roosevelt and Artie Mae (Joyner) Alawine on March 30, 1936, at their home in Neshoba County. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and excellent cook. Betty was a true Southern lady that loved her Lord and loved praising Him. She loved babies and animals, but most of all she dearly loved her family. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Artie Mae Alawine; her sons, Tony Allen Brown and Kelly Paul Brown; and her granddaughter, Kristi Sanders.

    Betty is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Douglas “Doug” Mayo; her son, David Othell Brown (Geri); her daughter, Jo Ann Knight (Joe); her stepson, Craig Mayo (Miranda); her stepdaughter, Monique Mayo; her brother, Paul Alawine (Margaret); and a legacy of fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

    Visitation for Betty will be held on Tuesday, February 18th, from 5-7 pm at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Downtown. Chapel Services will be held on Wednesday, February 19th, beginning at 10 am at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Downtown, with Bro. Jack Giles officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Collinsville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made in Betty's honor to the Righteous Oaks Recovery Center or to a favorite charity of your choice.

    The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Downtown is grateful for the opportunity to honor Betty’s life and memory and to serve her loving family during this time.
