Services for Mrs. Betty Swayze McInnis, age 97, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Marion United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Knight officiating, assisted by the Revs. Frank Oliver Brown and Davey Wilkinson. Her body will lieinstate at the church from 10:00 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Cokers Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Vimville, MS.
Mrs. McInnis died on April 9, 2010, in Meridian, MS, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 20, 1913, in Benton, MS, to Richard and Bertha Swayze. Following graduation from the Mississippi State College for Women, she moved to Lauderdale, MS, where she taught home economics in the high school and married a fellow teacher, James Butler Mac McInnis on May 20, 1937. In later years, after moving to Marion, MS, she taught in Northeast Lauderdale Elementary School. She was an active member of Marion United Methodist Church and, for a time, an alderman on the Marion town council. She was an accomplished artist, and enjoyed painting a variety of scenes and people. In 2008 she moved to Aldersgate Retirement Community.
She is survived by her sister Alice Rigby sons Richard Linda and Jimmy Barbara McInnis daughters Nancy Mallory and Betty Ruth Gentry Glenn and grandchildren Susan Gentry Saidian, Linda Gentry Brassell, Jamie Lynn McInnis Quinn, Kevin and Eric Nelson, Joanna McInnis, Stacy McInnisBlalock, Shannon McInnis, and eleven greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and granddaughter Candice,
