Billie Ruth Sharp Thomas passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 with loving family by her side to be with her Beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Funeral services for Billie Ruth Sharp Thomas will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018, 2:00 p.m., at Stephens Funeral Home in Dekalb, MS.
Brother Doug Stokes will officiate the service along with family friend Pastor Randy Rigdon with brother-in-law, Jimmy Primos speaking. Singing will be provided by Melanie Stokes and Faith Eakes.
Mrs. Thomas, age 81, of Scooba, was currently residing at Brookdale in Meridian where she had lived since last April.
Born on July 27, 1936 in Laurel, Mississippi, to Macel Valentine Sharp and A.W. (Bill) Sharp Billie moved to Shuqualak, Mississippi with her family when she was still in school, graduated, and married Jimmie Rogers (John) Thomas on March 24, 1957. She was a loving wife, mother of four children, Gran to nine grandchildren, and Great Gran to four new great grandchildren born in May within two weeks of each other. While raising her family, she also served as the Assistant City Clerk in the town of Scooba and served as the City Clerk for the town of Shuqualak for several years. She was a member of the Scooba United Methodist Church and had also attended Cross Mountain Church in Porterville.
Billie Ruth loved her family and friends and enjoyed being surrounded by them. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals and hosting many gatherings throughout the years.
She loved to read and was also a big fan of country music. In the last few years she had been mostly homebound, she had loved connecting with family and friends on facebook.
Survivors include: daughters, Libby Yates; Lynn Hailey (Bud); sons, Jimmy Thomas; Jason Thomas, (Ginger); Grandchildren: John Yates, Justin Yates, Dalton Thomas (Mabry), Cole Thomas, Brody Thomas, Terra Ray Overby (Jared), Austin Thomas, Garrett Thomas and Holden Thomas: Great grandchildren: Jackson Eli Yates, Raelynn Grace Overby, and twins, Hudson JamesThomas and Weston Rogers Thomas.
Billie was the oldest of four children and is survived by her loving siblings: Ellen Raybon (Roper),
Jane Primos (Jimmy), Steve Sharp (Katie); Nieces: Martha Raybon Boyles (Rick); Beth Pendergrass Busbea (George/Buzz), Stephanie Sharp Carroll (John): Great Nieces: Kristin Crosby Mole (Mark), Jessica Raybon, Jana Ingles (Josh), Brianna Pendergrass, Sophie Carroll, Sarah Carroll, Maria Carey (Rory), Great-Great Niece: Claire Mole.
Nephews: Dwayne Raybon (Denise), Chris Pendergrass, Kevin Pendergrass, Steve Sharp, Jr. (Kelli), Jack Collins (Barbara): Great Nephews: Jake Raybon, Jesse Busbea, Cayden Sharp, William Sharp, Jimmy Carey, Sean Carey: Great-Great Nephew: Sheldon Kennan, child of Maria.
She is also survived by her mother's sister, Aunt Edna Mae Shows, age 94, (Thomas) and her Aunt Betty Valentine and many loving cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Rogers (John)Thomas and parents, Macel Valentine and A.W. (Bill) Sharp.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons: John Yates, Justin Yates, Dalton Thomas, Cole Thomas, Brody Thomas, Austin Thomas, Garrett Thomas and Holden Thomas.
The family would like to special thanks to Dottie Briggs and the staff of Brookdale for their love and assistance. Billie loved the people of Brookdale and had felt at home there. We are also grateful to Hospice Compassus for their loving care of our mother.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm with services beginning immediately following visitation. Burial service will follow at Scooba Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
