Doby, 73, passed away in his home Thursday, December 14th. He was born on July 26, 1944 in Stonewall, MS. A 1962 graduate of Stonewall High School, he attended Jones County Junior College where he received a degree in radiology. He served the US Army as an x-ray technician at Fort Knox for two years. In 1970, he began a career in the oil field where he worked for Shell Oil and Operators and Consultants until his retirement in 2009.
Doby was a loving husband, compassionate father, and loyal friend. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, making knives, and wood working, especially to make turkey yelpers. He traveled the state attending performances and athletic events participated in by his grandchildren - he was their biggest fan and their toughest critic. He was "papaw", not only to his own grandchildren, but to their friends and teammates as well.
Doby is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ava Gail Pritchett; brother Jack Davis; sister, Missie Smith; children, Tonia (Don) Lee, Billy (Wendy) Pritchett, Christy (Josh) Perkins; grandchildren, Baleigh (Britt) Ford, Bethany (Colby) Williams, Ben Volking, Josh Lee, Dusty Pritchett, Caleb Pritchett, Kyle Pritchett, Blake Hennington, Blair (Andrew) Watkins; great-granchildren Zephyr, Cannon, Riley, Beckham, and Waverly Blake; numerous niece and nephews; along with his golden retriever Lewi - his greatest companion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Frank and Willie Mae Pritchett; brothers, Pete Davis, Johnny "Monk" Pritchett, Bobby Pritchett; and grandson Colby Pritchett.
Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Hennington, Dusty Pritchett, Ben Volking, Caleb Pritchett, Kyle Pritchett, Andrew Watkins, Josh Lee, Britt Ford, and Colby Williams.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 17, 2017, at Webb Funeral Home in Meridian from 5 - 8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 - 11 a.m. at the church.
