Mr. Carl Roy "Rusty" Culpepper, 82, died Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Select Specialty hospital in Jackson after complications from a stroke.
Mr. Culpepper was born in Meridian, where he was a lifelong resident of the Martin Community. After graduating high school, Rusty served his country by serving in the US Navy for four years and was a plane coordinator for FLY-4 on the U.S.S. Intrepid. He held many jobs in his working lifetime, from selling milk, working at Peavey Electronics and cutting and bailing hay with his brother Arnold. He was a great salesman. Many will remember him selling tractor implements for Dufour Implements in Meridian and also at Windham Tractor in Philadelphia. He was also a lead salesman at Culpepper Campers in Collinsville, a business he owned with his brothers. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunted in the winters and fished at his camp on the Tenn-Tom waterway. He was also a great golfer.
Rusty leaves a legacy of faith. He was a deacon for many years at Pine Grove Church in Martin and later a faithful member of the Evangel Temple church in Meridian.
Loving husband, father and grandfather, his greatest joy was his family. Holiday gatherings would take place at his home with singing, laughing and a host of great-grandkids taking turns riding his tractor and laughing on his stomach. Vacations may find all 39 members of his family under one roof.
He leaves behind his wife, Mackie, of 62 years along with three children, Kim Culpepper (Cathy), Carla Culpepper Sanderford and Bryan Culpepper (Cindy); Three brothers, Raymond Culpepper (Leaverne), Arnold Culpepper (Carolyn), Mike Culpepper (Diane); One Sister, Willie Mae Hodges; Six grandchildren, Dusty Culpepper (Tori), Phillip Culpepper (Casey), Kristen Culpepper Isom (Chris), Justin Culpepper (Veronica), Jared Culpepper (Brandy) and Caleb Culpepper (Sidney); 19 Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Obie Culpepper, mother, Lorene Culpepper, brother, Landis Culpepper and son-in-law, Sandy Sanderford.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Evangel Temple Church.
