Carolyn Shurley

A graveside service for Mrs. Carolyn J. Long Shurley will be held Tuesday, July 28th, 3:00 p.m. at Meridian Memorial Park.

Mrs. Shurley 85, of Meridian, passed away Thursday, July 23rd at her Bedford Care Center of Marion.

She was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was also a past Worthy Matron of The Order of the Eastern Star Oakland Heights Chapter. She worked many years at General Box and then at Van Zyverden before retirement. She will be remembered for her love of her grand and great grandchildren and her love of flowers.

She is survived by sons, Donald McKinnon (Noelle) of Soso, MS, and Phillip Gates of Collinsville, MS; two granddaughters; three grandsons; two great granddaughters; and three great grandsons; brother, Richard Laverne Long of Bessemer, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie E. Shurley; father, Washington Josiah Long; mother, Ruby Mae Guthrie Long; seven sisters; and two brothers.
