Clara Lucille Edwards Briggs peacefully passed away at her home in Scooba, Mississippi on July 10, 2022. She was born March 30, 1924, to the late George Roy Edwards and Birdie Lucille Watt Edwards also of Scooba.
Clara married her only love, Kenneth, on August 22, 1941. She was a devoted wife and the two were inseparable until Kenneth’s death in 1979. She greatly missed the love of her life until her dying day. She loved her family and was so proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They always brought a smile to her face. She was a gracious host as she and Kenneth loved having friends and family join them at the Ken-Marie Clubhouse.
Clara was the manager of Merchants and Farmers Bank, Scooba Branch, the owner of Briggs Five Point, and a member of Scooba United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruby Marie Briggs McCullough and her husband, Tony; her daughter-in-law, Diane Briggs: four grandchildren, John Lyle Briggs, Clara Jan-Marie Briggs Miller, Joshua Lowell McCullough and his wife, Abbie, and Meredith McCullough Miller; eight great-grandchildren, William Oliver Miller, John Ross Briggs, Christopher Tyler Miller, Nicole Marie Briggs, Anthony Hayes Miller, Carter Allen McCullough, Copeland Lowell McCullough, and Kimberly Claire Slaton; and a sister, Royce Edwards Cook and her husband, Pat; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kenneth Briggs, Sr.; a son, John Kenneth Briggs, Jr.; great-granddaughters, Mary Hope Miller, Emma Grace Miller and Ann Briggs McCullough; her parents, Roy and Birdie Edwards; and her sister, Elsie Marie Farrar and her husband Roy Herman.
A graveside service wil be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Briggs Chapel Memorial Cemetary, Porterville, Mississippi. Josh McCullough, Patrick Cook, Mike Farrar, John Lyle Briggs, John Ross Briggs, and Hayes Miller will serve as pallbearers. Oliver Miller, Tyler Miller, Carter McCullough, and Copeland McCullough will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: Briggs Chapel Cemetery Fund at 8385 Hwy 498 E, Porterville, MS 39352 or to EMCC Foundation-Baseball at P.O. Box 158, Scooba, MS 39358.
