Mr. Easterling, age 81, of DeKalb, passed away August 27th, 2023.
Van was a longtime resident of DeKalb, Mississippi, having graduated from DeKalb High School. After high school, he joined the National Guard and served honorably for six years. His heart for service led him to a career in safety and he worked several places as a safety coordinator, the last fourteen years spent at MDOT. He was also passionate about serving his community in volunteer fire service. Van loved being outdoors either hunting or fishing, or using his talent of woodworking to make anything you could imagine, from cribs, cabinets or bowls, among other things. Van was a faithful man who loved the Lord and always took the time to witness to anyone that may need to hear the Gospel. On occasion, he would fill in preaching at various churches.
Van is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Sue Easterling; children, Charles Randall Easterling, of Knoxville, TN, and Stacy LaBruyere and her husband, Pat, of Iowa, LA; grandson, Mason Andrew Walters and his wife, Kristal, and great-grandchildren, Ryker Eli Walters and Novelle Elizabeth Walters; siblings, Alva Lena Easterling Griffin, Victoria Florence Easterling Mills, Alma Brand Easterling Overstreet and David Milton Easterling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleanthus Vandory and Alma (Brand) Easterling, Sr. and sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Easterling Wolfe.
