Dal Walker Phillips, 85, of Cuba Alabama passed away on July 9, 2019 at the Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, MS. Services will be held at the James F Webb Funeral Home on Tuesday July 16, 2019 at 11:00 am in Meridian, MS with Reverend Chris Kiepe officiating. Burial will follow at the Clay Memorial Cemetery in Cuba, Alabama with James F Webb Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Phillips was born in Sumter County, AL on March 21, 1934 to Bertie and Sam Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Cuba Presbyterian Church. Mr. Phillips worked as a millwright for 39 years at the Westervelt Company formerly known as the Gulf Sates Paper Corporation. Mr. Phillips also served in the U.S. Army for two years where he was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. Mr. Phillips enjoyed gardening, spoiling his granddaughters, traveling to Ohio and California to frequently visit his daughters, and tinkering with various mechanical projects.
He is survived by his daughter, Pam Baker and son-in-law John from San Marcos, CA and daughter Debbie Phillips from Columbus, OH. He has two granddaughters Lauren and Shannon Baker from San Marcos, CA.
Mr. Phillips is also survived by two brothers, Al Phillips from Alexander City, AL, and Sammy Phillips from Flat Rock, AL and one sister Virginia Thorne from Butler, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bertie and Sam Phillips, his brother Tolbert Phillips, and his wife of 56 years Frances Phillips.
Pallbearers will be Tobby Phillips, Mike Hayes, Tommy Buchanan, Roger Thorne, Jay Phillips, and Robert Sheffield.
Honorary pallbearers include Lamar McElroy, and Cecil Harrell.
