“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2nd Timothy 4:7-8 KJV
David Wesley Warren, 94, of Quitman, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Ochsner Watkins Hospital.
David was born to Chester Wayne and Naomi B. (Gyger) Warren on March 24, 1930, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. In July 1948, David joined the United States Navy serving as a Machinist’s Mate engineer on the USS Bennington. After serving his country, David attended and graduated from the Pensacola Bible Institute in Pensacola, FL. He eventually made a home for himself in Clarke County, working at the Sunbeam Plant in Shubuta before retiring. In 1996, David met the love of his life in the Philippines, Evelyn Maranon, and from that day they were inseparable.
David was never one to meet a stranger and was always joyful to spread his love for the Lord. He was a long-time member of Old Paths Independent Baptist Church and one of the oldest members on record. David enjoyed reading his Bible daily, listening to Gospel and Blue Grass music, and watching his favorite shows on the Discovery Channel. He also enjoyed cooking American food for Evelyn, while she would make him traditional Filipino cuisine. They spent many adventures together over their 28 years, including leading Evelyn to accepting Jesus into her heart as her Lord and Savior.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Wayne and Naomi B. Warren; along with several of his siblings.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 28 years, Evelyn M. Warren; his children, Laurie Weimar (Robert), David Warren, Jr., Kenneth Warren (Andrea), Amy Warren-Laffin (Susan), and Bonnie Warren-Rezendes (John); his sister, Ida Warren Ross; a legacy of fourteen grandchildren and an abundance of great grandchildren; along with his loving church family of Old Paths Independent Baptist Church.
A Memorial Service to honor David’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 29th beginning at 11am, in the chapel of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North, with Bro Greg Mangum officiating the service. Interment will follow at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made in David’s honor to Old Paths Independent Baptist Church or to a favorite charity of choice.
The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North is grateful for the opportunity to honor David’s life and memory and to serve his loving family during this time.
