Graveside services for Mr. Don D. Herbert will held Friday at 11:30 at Magnolia Cemetery, 2638 23rd Ave., Meridian, MS. The Rev. Morris Thompson will be officiating. Stephens Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Don was born in Hammond, LA to Donald and Adele Herbert. He was the middle child with two sisters, Florence and Joan.
During his life, Don was always a leader. He served in the U.S. Army as a tank commander in the famed Dixie Division. After retiring from the Army, Don joined the Mississippi Army National Guard, eventually rising to the rank of colonel and served as an adjutant to G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery. He was a past president of the Meridian Retired Officers Association.
Don and his wife Ann were avid golfers and were early members of Briarwood Country Club. He is a past president of the club.
Don worked for twenty-five years for Mississippi Power Company where his last position was that of an engineering assistant.
He was a graduate of Meridian High School and attended Meridian Junior College.
Don is survived by his sister Joan Herbert Weaver of Mobile, AL; son Mark Herbert of Ridgeland, MS; grandson Matthew Herbert of Madison, MS and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ann to whom he was married for 65 years and his sister Florence of Decatur, AL.
Visitation will be at Stephens Funeral Home on Friday from 10 am to 11am.
