Doris Eloise Tubbs

January 1, 1936 — March 8, 2024

Meridian

Mrs. Doris Tubbs of Meridian, Mississippi, passed peacefully from this life at Bedford Care in Marion, Mississippi on March 8, 2024.

She was born on January 1, 1936, in Hale County Alabama to parents, Lester Coy Kelley & Lola Virginia Sealey.

She was a proud graduate of Hale County High School in Moundville, Alabama, Class of 1954.  She remained in contact with many classmates and always looked forward to reunions.  This year would have been her 70th reunion.

After graduating high school, she married the love of her life, William Daniel Tubbs (Dan), December 22, 1954.  They have faithfully served the Lord for well over 60 years in the Assembly of God Church of Meridian.

Doris and her husband Dan adopted a baby girl, Melissa McGlawn in November 1984.  She has brought much joy and fulfillment to their lives.  Doris was a dedicated housewife as she raised their baby girl to adulthood.

Doris enjoyed thrifting, baking, crocheting, playing games, traveling, and spending time with all of her friends especially “The Supper Club”.  She loved all of her friends but had a special closeness to Nell Dulaney, Mavis Bishop, Sandra Sullivan, and Mary Faile who have stood the test of time and have been there for her.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa McGlawn (Davy) of Meridian, MS; a sister, Evelyn (Polly) Meggs (Jimmy) of Akron, AL; brother-in-law, Howard Palmer Sheldon of FT Myers, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Dan) Tubbs; parents, Lester and Lola Kelley; sister, Virgina Sheldon; and brother, Preston Kelley.

Melissa would like to especially thank Melissa Brown, Misty, Ashley, and the numerous others at Bedford Care that took such great loving care of her mom.

We would also like to thank Matthew Stokley, Shelby, Ashley, and Crystal with Compassus who had a hand in care through this journey.  Your kindness and true compassion was and is evident.

We want to thank our Assembly of God church leaders, Pastor Bob Null, Pastor David Chandler, Pastor Jimmy Reed, and Pastor Jim Gordon, who have been the hands and feet of Christ.

Also, a special thank you to Providence Church for your generosity and kindness.

A private burial will be held at Providence Church.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM at First Assembly Meridian on Hwy 19.  Pastor Bob Null and Pastor David Chandler will be officiating.  Everyone is welcome!

The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North is grateful for the opportunity to honor Doris's memory and to serve her family at this time.
