Dorothy Allen

Funeral services for Dorothy Allen will be held Friday at 2:30 pm at Stephens Funeral Home. Dr. R. Scott Harrell will be officiating the service. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
Ms. Allen, 97, of Meridian passed away Wednesday at Bedford Care of Marion. She was a longtime boarding house owner in Meridian. Ms. Allen was a very caring person who helped numerous people during her life whether giving young people a ride to work, buying groceries for a needy family, whatever the need, she tried to meet that need.
She is survived by her son Cecil Cockerham (Janet); grandchildren Kathy Barnard (Kenny), Timothy Cockerham (Nanetta), Michelle Barone, Michael Gaulding, Heather Vasquez; nine great grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren. Ms. Allen is also survived by her sister Vivian Day (David) and brother Woody Whitworth (Katie). She was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Bessie Whitworth; daughter Caroline McDonald; grandchildren Karen Minor and Chris Cockerham along with several brothers and sisters.
