Funeral services for Dorothy Virginia Shaw Dean will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 am at Webb Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Owen officiating and a tribute read by Queenie Williams-Deeton. Burial to follow at Winchester Cemetery in Waynesboro, MS. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Dean was born August 9, 1931 on her parents' farm in Wayne County. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a graduate of Jones County Junior College, where her angelic voice was utilized in the college choir. She continued her education at Stephen College and Mississippi State University. She was a gifted pianist, and for many years served as the church pianist for Winchester Methodist Church. Her first job was working for Southern Bell as an operator when you had to go through an operator to make a local call. After a 10-year hiatus from work she married and had children. She worked for Wayne General Hospital as the Supervisor over Medical Record Department. She moved to Meridian to work for Riley Hospital as the Director of Medical Record Department. She helped start the Health Information Technology program at Meridian Community College. She worked many tireless hours helping get that program accredited. After retiring from MCC, she started a medical transcription company and worked from home until she was 76 years old.
Ms. Dean is preceded in death by her parents, George and Sadie Shaw; a brother, George H. Shaw; Sister, Nellie Herrington and grandson, Charles Pearson, JR.
She is survived by her daughters: Cathy (Charlie) Pearson of Meridian, MS and Amber Lynn (James) Cooley of Brandon, MS; two grandsons: Michael Jason Pearson of Long Beach and Logan Cooley of Brandon.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Jones, Lamar Deeton, Michael Pearson,Jimmy Rigdon and Ted Lightsey.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
