Dorothy was born in Winona, MS, August 5, 1938, until her and her parents moved to Greenwood, MS, where she spent most of her young life. After graduating from Greenwood High School in 1957, Dorothy married her first husband Earl B. Akin, Sr. They lived in Greenwood, MS, until they moved to Meridian and started their business, Akin Mobile Homes, and soon after started a family.
She was in the insurance business for more than 50 yrs working for Metropolitan Life and other companies until retiring from the insurance business with Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Co. She retired as Regional Sales and Marketing Manager with Colonial winning the ultimate in promotions and contests by winning many company trips and cars.
Loving her Ole Miss Rebels and watching the New Orleans Saints with her second husband, Harry M. Little, she was at her ultimate happiness spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, or when one of her many cats were in her lap. Dorothy was a bright light of wisdom, dedication and strength. Strength was something she taught her children, grandchildren, friends and co-workers. Just being around her and in her presence had an effect on people. She sparkled and spread joy with all she interacted with. She will surely be missed by all that knew her.
