Dr. Myung "Chee" Won Kim

Services for Dr. Myung Won Kim, also known as Dr. Chee Won Kim, will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 with Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Augustine Palimattam officiating. Services will continue at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home-North with visitation taking place from 1:00-3:00 p.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. graveside service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Dr. Kim, 94, of Meridian, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Kim was originally born in North Korea but was raised in South Korea by her maternal uncle and his family. She acquired her Degree in Medicine in Seoul, Korea where she practiced as a general practitioner in her own clinic. After her uncle passed away, she migrated to the United States to start her residency in New York. She then moved to Virginia to practice medicine. She also practiced in St. Croix, Caribbean Island and Matty Hersee Hospital in Meridian, MS before she transferred to the MS Department of Corrections Medical Facility in Parchman, where she retired in 2007.

Dr. Kim had many hobbies, including watching classic and western movies, flower and tree gardening, and cooking Korean dishes and sharing them with her neighbors. In her younger years, she loved to run, traveling to new places, and having dinner with friends. She was also an avid animal lover, having three cats and a dog, Robin Hood, who she treated like her child.

Although Dr. Kim didn’t have any family, she surrounded herself with friends that she considered family. Survivors include Shirley, Aaron, Russell, and Ashton Castro; Tracie, Ragan, and Austin Wichman; Earnestine Brown; Stacey Lunardon; Tess Meierbachtol; Rory Santiago; Diane Poole; Maria Malou; Rick Harris; Dr. John and Cynthia Shim; and Father Augustine Palimattam.
