Graveside services for E.B. Hailey will be held Monday, February 12, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Stephens Funeral Home in DeKalb from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
E.B. was born November 19, 1926, in Preston, Ms to Brooks and Edna Hailey. He grew up in the Kellis Store community with his older sister and two younger brothers and graduated from Lynnville High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army and was stationed with the 4025 Signal Service in the Philippines, where he served as mail clerk. He received an Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, a Philippine Independence Ribbon and a World War II Victory Medal. After honorably serving his country, he returned to his home place and worked at numerous stockyards and became well known in the cattle industry. E.B. liked people and would quickly introduce himself with a smile and firm hand shake. In 1955, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Patterson Hailey, and together they raised three daughters. He was a loving daddy and always provided his family with what was needed. He was "Paw" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they adored him. He loved his family and made each one feel special. He loved his neighbors and enjoyed helping them when he could. He had an appreciation for a good cow dog and bird dog, a nice horse, and a profitable herd of cattle and enjoyed hunting, fishing, rodeos, good jokes, and good food. E.B. will be remembered as an honest man who was slow to criticize, quick to praise, and always full of love.
He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-two years, Evelyn Patterson Hailey, daughters, Patsy Hailey Boyd (Gambrel), Pansy Hailey Long (Glenn) and Sandy Hailey Lee (Johnny), and grandchildren, Tracy Bell, Bob Long, Tyler Lee, Jamie Lee, John Burage, Rissie Martin, and Hailey Long Frith.
