Services for Mrs. Edna Pace Matheny will be held at 10 AM Monday at Graveside. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Reverend Davey Wilkinson officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Matheny, 83, died on Thursday, June 24, 2010. She was born on November 15,1926 in Kemper County, Mississippi to Francis Marion Pace and Bula Pace. She graduated from Collinsville High School on April 11, 1944. While at Collinsville H.S. she starred as a shooting guard for the girls basketball team. Later in life, she continued her basketball exploits as a member of a traveling allstar womens team representing Lauderdale, Mississippi.

She was joined in marriage to Raymond Clyde Matheny on October 11, 1949. Together, they worked as partners to ensure the success of numerous family businesses including cattle, timber, and retail. Mrs. Matheny would later serve as a front desk associate for over a decade at the Howard Johnsons Motor Lodge in Meridian, Mississippi. She ultimately retired after serving eleven years as a ward clerk for the Champion Building at East Mississippi State Hospital.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Matheny was known and appreciated as a loving mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. She was extremely devoted to both her family and her many friends. She enjoyed the companionship and camaraderie of the ladies of The Red Hat Society. Football season brought special joy to this avid supporter of the Ole Miss Rebels and New Orleans Saints Football teams. Her football expertise was widely recognized by her peers. She took a great deal of pleasure from her gardening and horticulture activities. She was a dedicated supporter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Survivors include her son and his life companion, Ray Matheny and Cheryl Smith of Lauderdale, MS son Frank Matheny, grandson Austin Matheny and his wife Amber, great step granddaughter Alexie Burge, and great grandson Houston gunnar Matheny, all of Mary Esther, Florida sister Fannie Mae Gibson of Meridian, niece Cathy Moore of Dallas, TX brother in law Bob Moore of Meridian and special niece Sue Brown of Collinsville, MS.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband Clyde Matheny, and sisters, Jean Hurtt and Frankie Moore.

Pallbearers will be Tony Boykin, Frank Crowder Sr., Scott Ford, Eric Pollard, Jon Pollard, and Kenny Taylor.

The family request that any memorials be made to The American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2010 from 5 7 PM at Webb Funeral Home.
