Ella Lea Mosby Calhoun, 74, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, following a long battle with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia.
She is survived by her husband and love of her life of 53 years, Shelton Ward Calhoun, Jr.; her children Ward, III (Connie) and John (Daphne) Calhoun; her beloved grandchildren Ashlie Dial (Skeeter), Drew (Abby), Caroline, Cameron, Greyson, and Walker Calhoun; and her treasured great-grandchildren Cade and Landrye Hopkins, all of Lauderdale County. In addition, she is survived by her brother Elmer Mosby (Gayle) of Albany, Georgia, her sister-in-law, Ellen Mosby, of Natchez, MS; her brother- and sister-in-law Larry and Janet Calhoun, of Sulfur, Louisiana, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and close friends.
Lea was preceded in death by her parents, Bill Rush and Ione Mosby, Sr., and her brother, Bill Rush Mosby, Jr.
Lea was born in Meridian, Mississippi, on November 24, 1941. She graduated from Meridian High School in 1959 and Meridian Junior College in 1961. She worked at Sears & Roebuck Service Department, USF & G Insurance Company, the Lauderdale County Circuit Clerk's office, and Great River Insurance.
Lea was a member of First Baptist Church of Meridian and the Encouragers Sunday School class.
A devoted wife and mother, Lea enjoyed life and never met a stranger. Her smile and laughter were two of her most endearing qualities.
The family would like to give special thanks to Velma Rice, Lea's caregiver; and Louise Hogan, RN, along with the other nurses and staff of Sta-Home Hospice for their devoted attention and excellent care during her illness.
Memorial services for Ella Lea Mosby Calhoun will be Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Webb Funeral Home in Meridian. Visitation will be Friday, June 17, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
