Evelyn Marzine Patterson Hailey

Services for Evelyn Patterson Hailey will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Webb Stephens Funeral Homes, DeKalb, MS. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Evelyn was born December 29, 1932, in Mashulaville, MS to Brooks and Lillian Patterson. She was their fourth child. There were 9 children total. Evelyn was trained as a practical nurse at Noxubee General Hospital. She enjoyed taking care of patients and especially liked working in the operating room. She also received nurse training in Columbus, MS. Over the years she continued using her nursing skills to help friends and neighbors. In 1955, she met the love of her life and married E. B. Hailey, Jr. They were married for almost 62 years. She left the hospital setting and became a fulltime homemaker raising their three daughters. She enjoyed people and always had a quick meal ready for anyone who came by. She loved gardening and always had a freezer full of vegetables. She was a talented seamstress and created Easter outfits, prom dresses, western wear, and even wedding dresses for her girls. As the girls became older she enjoyed returning to the work force and worked at various sewing plants. She was dedicated to her family. She loved helping others and some say she was generous to a fault. She was called Nanny by her seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. They loved their time with her and enjoyed her upbeat attitude and wit. Her spunky attitude, tell it like it is personality, and love for her family ran deep. Nanny was always concerned about others. She answered the phone with “Hey, how WE doing”. Evelyn had a personal relationship with God. She held HIM in awe, feared HIM, loved HIM and respected HIM. Her beliefs were solid and not up for discussion.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Brooks Patterson and Lillian Patterson, husband E.B. Hailey, Jr., daughter Sandy Lee, sisters, Helen Mayo, Earlene Grissom, Eunice Patterson and brothers, Harlan Patterson, Horace Patterson, Brooks Patterson

She is survived by her daughters, Patsy Whitcomb (Rodney), Pansy Long (Glenn) and son-in-law Johnny Lee , Grandchildren, Tracy Bell (Jonathan), Bob Long (Nicole), Tyler Lee (Brooke), John Burage (Mandy), Jamie Lee (Heather), Rissie Martin (Shane) and Hailey Frith (Hunter) and fourteen great grandchildren. Sisters Dean Sciple and Ruth Anderson and numerous niece and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bob Long, Tyler Lee, John Burage, Jamie Lee, Jonathan Bell, Shane Martin, Hunter Frith, Britt Long, Nate Martin and John Bell. Honorary Pallbearers Cooper Burage and Teagan Lee.
