George Russell Rusty Frye M.D.

Dr. George Rusty Frye passed away on November 3, 2014 at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Meridian, Mississippi. He was a devoted husband and son, a generous friend to many, a talented and compassionate physician, and a committed champion of animal rights.
Rusty was born on June 27, 1962. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1980 with highest honors. He attended Beloit College in Wisconsin and earned his undergraduate degrees in anthropology and physics from the University of Mississippi in 1984. He was a member of the Delta Psi fraternity while at Ole Miss. He studied medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and earned his Medical Degree in 1988. He interned at Baptist Medical Centers Montclair and Princeton in Birmingham, and served his radiology residency at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was a brilliant and caring radiologist, and practiced on the staff of Rush Medical Group and Rush Foundation Hospital until 2005.
Rusty loved his pet cats and rescued and cared for many during his lifetime. He was passionate about archaeology and antiques, and was a noted and renowned collector of 19th century soda bottles and Mississippi period Indian artifacts. He loved music and was an expert on Mississippi Blues and American Folk. He had a great passion for automobiles and motorcycles. He enjoyed spending time in New Orleans.
Rusty is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Jamie his brother, Charles Scooter Frye of Meridian his sisterinlaw, Robbie Carter and husband Milburn of New Albany his aunt, Mary Chambers of Gardendale, Alabama his cousins, Celia Cox of Mountainbrook, Alabama, and Luann Heer of Warrior, Alabama and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 5:00 pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish Hall with visitation 1 hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to East Mississippi Animal Rescue, and can be mailed to EMAR, 2440 North Hills Street, Suite 105, PMB 107, Meridian, MS 39305.
