Rev. George Pugh
Funeral services for Rev. George Pugh will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Marion United Methodist Church at 12 p.m. with Rev. Eddie Edwards officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will be in the Mississippi Veterans Cemetery in Newton.
Rev. Pugh passed away on August 31, 2015 at his home surrounded by friends and loved ones. He was born in West Point, MS and lived in Louisville, MS until the sixth grade, when his family moved to Meridian. Rev. Pugh was a member of Meridian High School Class of 1962. He then joined the Army and served with the 14th Armored Calvary in Bad Kissingen, Germany. He also served in the 186th Air National Guard. His education included degrees from Meridian Community College, The University of West Georgia, and The Memphis School of Theology where he received a Master of Divinity Cum Laude. He also spent two years of study in speech at Auburn University and was a part time instructor in speech at MCC for a number of years. Rev. Pugh spent 24 years as a minister in the United Methodist Church and served the following churches: Suqualena, Pachuta, Goodwater, McGowen's Chapel, Adams Chapel, Wesley Chapel South and Marion United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Pugh Sr. and Mae Crowson Pugh Huss.
Pallbearers are Ken Woodward, Larry Dorr, John Bryan, Bobby Parker, Jimmy Slay, Ronnie Taylor, Hagan Staton, and John Simon.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Benevolence Fund at Anderson's Regional Cancer Center, The George Pugh Culinary Scholarship Fund at MCC, or Marion United Methodist Church.
