Glen Ball

Glenn F. Ball, longtime resident of Meridian, died at home June 23, 2009. He almost fulfilled his ong time goal of celebrating his 100th birthday, which would have been July 6, 2009. He was born in Wapello, Iowa, on July 6, 2009.

He graduated from Iowa High School in 1927 and entered college at Iowa State University, where he earned his degree in Forestry in 1936. He retired from Flintkote in Meridian, as General Manager in 1965. During the following years, he continued to be very active in local events and activities, and was a loyal member of First Christian Church. After the age of 89, he became interested in Ham Radio operations, and went on to become quite a hit on the airwaves Until a few weeks ago, you would find him every morning around 6 a.m., talking to his buddies on the radio. He was an inspiration to everyone that came to know him. There was never a challenge too great to undertake. The way he lived and loved life has made unforgettable memories for his family and friends, of which we will never forget. We have been blessed to be a part of his life.

Lavonne H. Ball, his wife of 61 years, preceded him in death, Dec. 12, 2001. Others to precede him include his parents. Alvay and Estella Ball, one brother, Merle Ball, sisters Gladys Kitchen and Ruth French, ALso, nephew Donald Gene Gleaves, Sr.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, Betty McCulley and JoAnn Campbell of Mediapolis, Iowa, Warren Ball of Wapello, Iowa, Lois Banks of San Antonio, Texas, and Louise Hyde of Washington, Iowa. Also, Dr. James R. Gleaves of Meridian and Rev. Glen L. Gleaves of LIvingston, Montana, Richard Baker of Stratford, Ct, Paul Baker of Lewiston, New York, Susan Berry of Des Moines, Iowa, Nanette Albano of Virginia, Kenny Berry of Idaho and Bill Berry. Survivors also include several great nieces and nephews, of whom some have treasured memories of many special occasions shared with Unk over the years.

The family would like to extend our appreciation to the many devoted caregivers, and other, that have been so gracious and kind to Uncle Glenn during teh past few years. Your kindness and loyalty will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 2nd from 1p.m. until the 2 p.m. Funeral Service begins at First Christian Church, with Rev. Tom Sikes officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery
