Services for Gregorio “Greg” Mariano will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home-North with Rev. Dr. Wade Phillips officiating. The interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS.
Mr. Mariano, 87, of Meridian, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Greg was born in Manila, Philippines on June 12, 1937, and came to the United States as a young adult. He then joined the United States Navy, retiring after 22 years. During his time in the Navy, he obtained several degrees and really enjoyed learning. After retiring from the Navy, he and his family spent eight years in Okinawa, Japan doing civil service. Upon their return to America, he went on to serve as a chef and kitchen manager at East Mississippi State Hospital for many years, where he later retired.
Greg was a member of Northcrest Baptist Church and a Deacon for Fresh Start Fellowship.
He enjoyed watching sports, his favorite teams including the San Diego Padres and San Francisco 49ers. He also had a fondness for boxing, Oscar De Le Hoya being his favorite boxer. However, nothing was more important to him than his family; he was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Fish Mariano; children, Tammy Mariano-Davis (Ed), Greg Mariano Jr. (Faith), Angelisa Mariano Chandler (Mark), Erica Mariano, Colton Mariano, and William Wright; grandchildren, Te-ahnalin Harris, Justin Mariano, Jayde Hannis (Ethan) Lucas Chandler, Colby Gist, Emilly Mariano, Rowen Mariano, Jasmine Scott, Dorien Davis, and Kianii Sauls (Andrew); great granddaughters, Sofia Hannis, Faithlyn Woodson, Alina Sauls, and Emorie Glaude; siblings, Albin, Ricardo, Jun, Tom, Rey, Tony, and Norma Mariano, all of Manila, PI.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Delfin and Asuncion Mariano; and siblings, Burt, Ike, and Angela Mariano.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 15, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Webb and Stephens Funeral Home-North.
