Henrietta "Sugarbaby" Lang, 85, passed away on March 17, 2025, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. She was born at home on September 7, 1939, to Jack and Mable (Griffin) Tharp in Sunflower County, Mississippi.
Henrietta worked for many years at her home business, “The Quilt Corner.” Although she made curtains, shams, and pillowcases, etc., her favorite thing to do was making quilts. Many in the area brought their quilt tops to her to finish them. She added the batting and sewed the backing on them. She loved our Lord Jesus and Gospel music. She even had a “I heart gospel music” license tag on the front of her car. Before becoming ill, she enjoyed baking. Mom’s pecan and coconut pies, and especially her chicken dressing were big favorites at family gatherings.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Mable Tharp; and her siblings, Billy Tharp, Mary Cleo Fults, Gene Tharp, Wayne Tharp, Charles Tharp, Allen Tharp, Joyce Shirey, and Richard Tharp.
Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her husband of more than 50 years, Clayton Lang of DeKalb MS; and her two sons, Burt Stanfill (Suzy), and Jerry Stanfill (Lori). She also leaves her grandchildren, Alex Stanfill, Jessica Stanfill, Adam Stanfill, Garrett Stanfill, and Trevor Stanfill; her siblings, Ronnie Tharp (Mary Helen), Cecil Tharp (Barbara), Jimmy Tharp (Cherrie), and Grace Kleespie; along with a great many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Henrietta often made friends with the people she met along the way. She would make small gifts with her scraps of fabric and give them away.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 am, with the service beginning at 11:00 am at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Dekalb, Hwy 16 West, DeKalb, Mississippi 39328. Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at Roundaway Cemetery, 776 Steiner Road, Doddsville, MS 38736.
The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-DeKalb is grateful for the opportunity to honor Henrietta’s life and memory and to serve her loving family during this time.
