A graveside service for Mr. Herman “Pete” Denton will be held Monday, June 29th, 10:00 a.m., at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jack O. Giles officiating.
Mr. Denton, 94, of Suqualena, passed away at Northpointe Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Pete graduated from Suqualena High School. Immediately after graduation, he went to the South Pacific to serve with the U.S. Navy as a Landing Craft Operator for the U.S. Marines. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and Illinois Central Railroad. He was also the owner of Denton Grocery Store in Suqualena and a farmer of cattle and crops his entire life. He was a devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Raymond B. Denton II, (Rhonda J.), Cathy Denton Carpenter (William T. “Bill” Jr.), William R. “Bob” Denton; grandchildren, William T. “Will” Carpenter III (Katie), Matthew D. Carpenter, Peter C. Carpenter, and William R. “Bobby” Denton Jr.; and great grandchildren, William T. “Liam” Carpenter IV and Joseph Jackson “Jack” Carpenter.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Smith Denton; mother, Linnie Jenkins Denton; father, Raymond Benjamin Denton; and daughter-in-law, Kim Griffis Denton.
Pallbearers will include his grandchildren, Will Carpenter, Matthew Carpenter, Peter Carpenter, and Bobby Denton.
The family would like to thank North Pointe Health and Rehabilitation for taking such good care of their “Papa”.
