Hershell Ezell Adams

    Hershell Ezell Adams, 77, of Quitman, passed away peacefully the evening of Saturday, March 15, 2025, at St. Dominic’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

     Hershell was born to Ezell and Minnie Adams on September 2, 1947, in Choctaw County, AL. After high school, Hershell enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War Era. He worked as tugboat captain for many years with American Commercial Barge Line before retiring 10 years ago.

     He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. On January 23, 1993, he married the love of his life, Pam Means. Hershell was generous, loyal, and everyone’s best friend. But most of all he was best known as the “master aggravator”, doing anything he could to joke with and get a rise out of you. He loved watching Ancient Aliens and his Alabama football and would watch football year-round. Hershell was also a self-taught craftsman, known to make any board hold a million nails. He also enjoyed fishing, but his favorite hobby was cleaning the house; even when it was already cleaned, he would be found with a broom in his hand. His greatest pastime above all else though, was being with his family. Hershell’s absence will be deeply felt, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

     Hershell was preceded in death by his parents, Ezell and Minnie Adams; and son, Nicholas Scott “Scooter” Wood.

     Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Pam Adams; his children, Jennifer Adams Clayton, Brook Adams (Candice), Brooks Wood (Laurie), and Jacob Eli Adams (Alyssa Pitts); seven grandchildren, Macy Adams, Memphis Adams, Brooklyn Wood, Kori Wood, Ginger Long (Jason), Sage Bishop (Harley), and Savannah Clayton; along with his three great grandchildren, Rowan Long, Magnolia Long, and Ellis Long.

     The family will have a private celebration at a later date to honor Hershell’s life and memory.
