James Baughman

James Daniel Baughman passed away December 26, 2021.

A graveside service for family will be held Wednesday at 3pm at Clark’s Chapel Cemetery in Kemper County.

James, or Jamie as he was known by family, was born August 19, 1923 in Preston MS.

He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy.  During the War, he was stationed in Manila, Philippine Islands, where he met and married his wife, Virginia.  They were married for 68 years before her death in 2013.

Jim was a civil servant for the Army at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.  Upon his retirement, Jim and Virginia settled first in Dekalb then in Meridian, MS.

He was a long time member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a loving husband, father and brother and will be greatly missed.  He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, parents, Elmer and Gladys Baughman, sisters Mazelle Thrash, Louise Darnell, Johnny McMullen and brothers Clark Baughman and Cooper Baughman.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Joseph Baughman (Special Friend Robyn Hoopes), daughter, Marie Baughman Caples (Jeff), grandchildren, Lisa Baughman Davis (Adam), Katie Baughman Gates (Aaron), Courtney Caples Streelman (Kevin), great grandchildren, Sophia Streelman, Rhett Streelman, Janie Davis, Kyle Davis, Ava Gates, Ty Gates, and Eli Gates.

He is also survived by his loving sister, Jan Edwards and brother Bud Baughman, and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the members of St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus who serve as pall bearers.
