James Hulon “Coonie” Touchstone, 92, of the Suqualena Community, passed away the afternoon of June 18, 2024, at Queen City Nursing Home in Meridian, Mississippi.
James was born to Clayton Hamilton and Allie Mae “Big Mama” (Baker) Touchstone on July 19, 1931, in Stonewall, Mississippi. He will be remembered as being a kind and friendly person, willing to help anyone in need. His favorite pastime was watching the Atlanta Braves games and Gunsmoke on television. He was a member of Druid Hills United Methodist Church where he served as the Usher Chairman for many years. James was also a member of the Gideon International East Camp serving as Card Chairman for a number of years. James retired from the City of Meridian after serving 22 years of dedicated service in the Parks and Recreation Department.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Harriett (Thompson) Touchstone; his sons, Hulon Ray Touchstone and Billy James Touchstone (Leslie); brother-in-law, Ed Butts (Shirley) who was like a brother to him; five grandchildren, Stefanne Brooks (Heath), Beverlee White (Richard), Michelle Hall (Chris), Garret Touchstone (Cassandra) and Jacob Touchstone; eight great-grands, Braxton Scarborough, Lane Brooks, Gauge Brooks, Madison White, Jackie White, Logan White, Bailey Hall, and Morgan Hall; along with several nieces and nephews; and a very special niece who was like a little sister to him, Phyllis Mercer Love Fox and his special nephew, Richard Touchstone (Ruth).
James was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Sarah Lee Charlton Touchstone; brother, Willie Hamilton “Boots” Touchstone and his wife, Grace Clark Touchstone; and sister, Sara Touchstone McDonald.
Graveside services for James will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, beginning at 10:30 am at Magnolia Cemetery located at 2638 23rd Ave., Meridian, with Bro. Damon Williams officiating.
