Jane Catherine Whitener, 86, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, MS. Services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Salem Baptist Church, 128 Kellis Store Loop Rd., Preston, MS 38354. Longtime family friend Neville Vandenburg will minister. Stephens Funeral Home is entrusted with her arrangements.
Jane was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, March 1, 1935 and graduated from Tupelo High School. She then continued on to Southwestern of Memphis College School of Nursing. Her career spanned more than 40 years where she worked as a Registered Nurse in the Memphis Methodist Hospital system. She was the Nurse Manager of the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit prior to her retirement. Her circle of friends included many and her kindness extended to all those around her.
Jane was also a founding member of the Desoto County Ambulance Service where she volunteered for approximately 10 years. She was a member of Maples Memorial United Methodist Church before moving to Dekalb, Mississippi with her daughter.
She is survived by her children, Derek Glen Hayes (Julie), Robert Allen Hayes (Carol), Jon Patrick Whitener, and Mary Jane Conner (Ray); her grandchildren, James Morgan Whitener, P.J. Whitener, Robert Allen Hayes Jr., Lindsay Whitener, Nicholas Cory Presley, Johnathon Scott Whitener, Joshua Hayes and great-grandchildren, Aubrey May Whitener and Ryder Andrew Wheeler.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Della Bernice Priddy, stepfather Carl C. Priddy, and two brothers James and Joe Basham.
