Janis Dow Jan Taylor

Services for Janis Dow Jan Taylor will be held Tuesday at 11 am at The Episcopal Church of the Mediator with The Reverend Helen Tester officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Taylor, 87, of Meridian, died Saturday, December 4, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Taylor was born in 1923 in Stratford, Connecticut, the daughter of Harold Thomas Dow and Frances Cadwell Dow. When Jan was a young girl, the family moved to East Aurora, New York where she remained until she met and married her late husband, Frank Abe Taylor on June 23, 1945. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to New Orleans and then Meridian, where they remained and raised their family. In addition to being a wonderful mother, wife, and homemaker, Mrs. Taylor was very involved in the community and her church, The Episcopal Church of the Mediator. She was the Phi Kappa mom in 1964 a lifelong member of the Twentieth Century Garden Club a member of the Meridian Junior Auxiliary and on the Altar Guild at the Church of the Mediator. Jan and Abe spent many happy years traveling the world and visited all but two continents. While on these trips, Jan photographed and recorded the highlights of each country. She had many other hobbies which included smocking, needlepoint, and cooking. She was also an excellent hunter and traveled all over North America hunting with her husband. Gardening was probably her most favorite hobby her beautiful rose garden was a tribute to her constant caretaking. She loved to send vases of her roses to friends and family to brighten their day.

Survivors include her children, Michael Dow Taylor and wife Linda of Jackson Janis Taylor Weidner and husband Billy of New Orleans, Louisiana Frank Glenn Taylor and Jetson Stuart Taylor both of Meridian ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold T. Dow brother, Harold T. Dow, Jr. and her husband, Frank Abe Taylor.

The family expresses utmost appreciation to Rita Hill, longtime caretaker and companion, and Sylvia Dawson.

The family requests that memorials be made to The American Cancer SocietyBreast Cancer Awareness and to the Church of the Mediator.

Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
