In the evening of June 12, 2014, Jewell Andees Watkins Gibson, age 90, ended her earthly journey and passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her family was with her at her passing, and she had been blessed with the love and support of friends who visited her, prayed for her and sang to her in her final day. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt Gibson, in 2010.

Mrs. Gibson was a graduate of Anderson Infirmarys School of Nursing, and had a 40 year career as a Registered Nurse at Anderson Hospital in Meridian, and was the nurse of Dr. Paul Parker until his death. She used her nursing skills in other voluntary efforts, including serving as camp nurse when her daughter, Beverly, attended summer camps.
Mr. and Mrs. Gibson were active members of the Mississippi Power Company retiree club, Short Circuit, where she continued as a member until she was unable to attend in 2011. A longtime member of Southside Baptist Church, now Central Baptist Church, the Gibsons regularly shared their pew with friends of the congregation.

When Mrs. Gibsons vision declined and she became legally blind, she lost her ability to drive and her activities were more limited. That did not mean that they did not continue to travel throughout the United States and Canada. They especially enjoyed visiting Branson, Missouri and the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida area to visit Mrs. Gibsons sister, Lucille.

Mrs. Gibson was born September 3, 1923 to Lois M. Daughtery Watkins and Sam Jones Watkins. She was part of a large family that included sisters, the late Faye Tom Majure, and Lucille Don Rudd, and brothers Ralph Elizabeth Watkins, brothers who preceded her in death, Burwick Maude Watkins, Percy Watkins, Jack Dale Watkins, and Stanley Mildred Watkins.

She is survived by daughters Beverly Craig Zoch, Carol Hank Stern and son, Charles Rachel Gibson. She has four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the kind and supportive staff of Heritage House in Brandon, Mississippi, Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland whose kindness, compassionate care and support made Mrs. Gibsons final days peaceful, and to a number of aides who assisted Mrs. Gibson while she still lived in Meridian. The family especially appreciates the kind, loving assistance of Shevoner Moore, who assisted Mrs. Gibson and carried her to visit her husband, daily, while he was in a nursing home in Meridian.
