Funeral services for Mr. David Kirkland will be held Friday at 2pm at Union Hills Church. Rev. Walt Tessier and Rev. Owen Gordon will be officiating with special music by Rev. Chris Gully. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mr. Kirkland, 72, of Dekalb, passed away March 11, 2019 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser and was currently employed by Pilgrim's Foodliner in Dekalb.
Mr. Kirkland loved people and not many were able to outwit him. He often said he was a "jack of all trades but a master of none." His many hobbies included hunting, woodworking, making turkey calls, wooden bowls, hunting knives, arrowheads, drawing and painting with oil paints. David was currently working on a building a gas forge to heat his knife blades.
David is survived by his wife of 50 years Martha Sue Kirkland of Dekalb; daughter Tammy Eaves (Wayne) of DeKalb; son Timothy Kirkland of Dekalb; grandchildren Casey Wright (Phillip) of College Station, TX, Summer Stokes (Eric) of Damascus, Breanna Eaves of Dekalb; great-granddaughter Emory Stokes of Damascus. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn Eakin (Benny) of Dekalb; aunt Jeannette Lang Powell of Philadelphia; a special cousin Jimmy Kirkland (Betty) of Philadelphia and nephews Jeremy and Josh Brantley.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Kirkland, Tommy Howard, Marvin "Bubba" Bryan, James Skipper, Jeremy Brantley, Phillip Wright, Eric Stokes and Wayne Eaves. Honorary pallbearers will be John Watson, Gene McArthur, Gerald Lockley, Josh Brantley, Steven Lockley, Jimmy Lee White, Jimmy Kirkland and Mark Brantley.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
