John Wesley Newsome

     John Wesley Newsome, 86, of Meridian, passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Baptist Anderson Hospital.

     John was born to James Hardy and Ida (Lovett) Newsome on June 9, 1938, in Meridian. He will be remembered as being a loving and devoted father and grandfather. When John was not working, he loved spending his free time with his children. He loved nature, hunting, and fishing, but most of all, his hummingbirds. John will be missed above all by his children, and by all who knew and loved him.

      John is survived by his sons, John W. Newsome, II (Montana), James Newsome, and Bill McWilliams (Penny); his daughters, Debra Nichols and Brenda Landrum (Mike); along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hardy and Ida Newsome; his wife, Julia J. Newsome; and his five sisters, Maudie Newsome, Margaret Wilbanks, Katie Breland, Emma Jean Jones, and Callie Moorehead.

       A Memorial Service to honor John’s life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, beginning at 12pm, at Long Creek Baptist Church, with Bro. Marty Harper officiating the ceremony.

      In lieu of flowers for the family, they request for donations to be made in John’s honor to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s, or to a favorite charity of choice.

      The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Downtown is grateful for the opportunity to honor John’s life and memory and to serve his loving family during this time.
