John Phallioan Taylor, 89, of Meridian, Mississippi, passed away January 1, 2020, at his home in the Long Creek Community. He was retired from 25 years of service in the U.S. Army, which included combat in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and numerous other overseas deployments. He was born December 29, 1930, in Quitman, MS, the son of the late Wiley O’Phallioan Taylor and Cora Mixon Taylor.
He is survived by one sister, Nadine Long of Poteau, OK, 3 daughters, Vonnie Neal (Donnie) of Crescent, OK, Shay Hollingsworth (Jamie) of Florence, MS, and Candise Brown (Jim) of Tupelo, MS; and a son in law, William Covington, of Meridian, MS; and 9 grandchildren, Dea’ Dyson (Stacy), Will Covington (Destiny), Trent, Ethan, Taylor, Wyatt, Andrew, Carrie Ann, and Hannah. Two great granddaughters, Phallioan & AllyMorgan. He was very close to his 3 nephews, Richard Moody, Tom Buckalew and Jim Buckalew; and 6 nieces, Betty Kent, Peggy Gray, Jane Griffin, Marcia Bull, Jean Smith, and Patricia Carney and too many great and great great nieces and nephews to list.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sharron Covington of Meridian, MS.
He was the middle brother of 4 sisters, Ann Moody(d. 2013), Rocellie Buckalew(d. 1998) Laurine Herrington(d. ) and Nadine Long.
For the past 10 years, he was very lovingly and patiently cared for by Ms. Norma George and her sweet sister Carolyn Malone. The family will be forever grateful for how well she took care of Uncle JP.
Pallbearers will be Don Malone, William Covington, Tommy Buckalew, Jimmy Buckalew, Koty Blackwell, Mark Griffin, Mike Buckalew and Chris Buckalew.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 5, 2020, from 5-7, at James F. Webb Funeral Home in Meridian, MS. Funeral services will be in the chapel at 11:00 on Monday, January 6, 2020. Burial will be held at the MS Veterans Memorial Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
