Johnnie Virginia Reid Nichols was born on April 16, 1928, to John Thomas Reid and Virgie Virginia Reid in Philadelphia, MS. She was Promoted to Glory on Tuesday morning, September 19, 2023, at the age of 95. She loved God, her family, and her church.
She is preceded in death by her parents John & Virgie Reid. Her brother, Billy Reid and her sister Roberta Reid Jenkins. Her husband, Aaron Nichols. One son, Douglas Nichols. One daughter, Wanda Mingo. One granddaughter, Magic Allen, two grandsons, Mark Oliver and Jarrod Gray, and great-granddaughter Julia LaBatte.
She is survived by three daughters: Evelyn (Fred) Thornhill, Joyce Godwin, Shirley Warren, and one son, Earl (Joyce) Nichols. She is also survived by a great multitude of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She had 27 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and 37 great-great grandchildren
She was a faithful member of Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Meridian. In previous years, she attended The Salvation Army in Meridian, taking her children to church and served in different capacities of leadership.
Her favorite Scripture verse was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” She grew up loving the songs, “Lily of the Valley” and “Higher Ground.”
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ, 1404 Highway 19 S, Meridian, MS 39301 from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Graham Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Aaron Nichols.
