Johnny Steed, 75, of Meridian passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at his residence. Johnny lived most of his life in Meridian, graduating from Meridian High and attending Scooba Jr. College. He also attended McNeese University in Lake Charles, Louisiana before being drafted by the Houston Oilers. He spent all of his working life in the electrical industry. He especially enjoyed his long term friendships with Meridian High and McNeese classmates. He was an active member of the McNeese State University Alumni. His football career was an important part of his life, one he enjoyed reliving on many occasions with dear friends. His lifelong friendships with Red Schwab and Eddie Thomas meant the world to him. Johnny was an avid hunter, especially enjoying the annual dove hunt he hosted for close friends. Johnny served two years in the National Guard during peace time.
He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. His community involvement included Rotary Club President in Mandeville, La., and a charter member of the Mandeville Moose Lodge. In Meridian he served in many capacities, including Governor. After his retirement, Johnny and Sybil enjoyed several years of extensive traveling. They made several trips a year with close friends, each one more fun than the one before.
His weary hours and days of pain, his troubled nights are past, and in our aching hearts we know, he has found sweet rest at last.
