Jose De Luna Joe Gomez
Visitation for Jose De Luna Gomez will be held Thursday from 57 pm at James F. Webb Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Frank Cosgrove officiating. Interment will follow at the Meridian Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Gomez was born at Fort Stotsenburg, Pampanga, Philippines on April 20, 1930 and passed away on June 8, 2014 at Poplar Springs Nursing Center.
He served aboard numerous ships and several shore stations including Iceland and Meridian, where he retired in 1976. He made his home here and worked for the Navy Exchange for 11 years before his final retirement. He remained very active in St. Patrick Church and the Knights of Columbus. He worked bingo fundraisers every week, supported all official and family events and was often honored for his total dedication to these missions. At the State Games of Mississippi, he has been an avid supporter for many years and is greatly missed at the games this month. He loved sports, singing and dancing.
He is survived by two sisters, Adela Gomez Young of San Diego, California, and Cresenciana Gomez of Denver, Colorado his niece, Christine Young of California special friends Dot Corbitt and family in Pelham, Alabama, and Mel and Jo Rillon of Meridian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Macario Gomez and Isabel De Luna Gomez his wife, Mabel Miles Thrash Gomez and his stepson, Michael Oliver Thrash.
Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus. Honorary pallbearer will be his longtime friend Mel Rillon.
