JOSEPH RUSSELL CAMP

Services for Mr. Joseph Russell Camp will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Camp of Russell Camp Road, Meridian, died Saturday January 11, 2014, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Mr. Camp was born June 22, 1912, in Meridian. Mr. Camp was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Air Corps which served as a sergeant in the military police during World War II. After the WWII, he worked for Whites Lumber Company and then as a carpenter and amateur tree farmer, and after his retirement he built cedar chests from cedar trees that grew on his property. He was a lifetime member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Mr. Camp was one of the early members of Hebron Baptist Church which over the course of his adulthood he served in various capacities. He was a longtime member of the board of deacons and for a number of years served as chairman of the deacons. His interests included wildlife and American history, especially fossils and Indian artifacts, and was an avid outdoorsman who was particularly fond of hunting deer and turkey.

Mr. Camp is survived by his son and daughterinlaw Barry R. and Carla Barnes Camp of Jackson two grandsons, Parker Barnes Camp of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Hunter Fikes Camp of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews, including Betsy Kittrell Vick Rutledge, Dorothy Parker Vick, Sandra Camp Little, and Tommy Kittrell, all of Meridian, aJoann Dun Morgan of Petal, and the Rev. Carroll H. Camp of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife, Aline Culpepper Camp his parents, John Irvin Phillips Camp and Mary Elizabeth Mollie Ellis Camp and his siblings, Norman Ellis Camp, Velma Camp Dunn, Mary Camp Parker, John Mack Camp, R.V. Camp, and Nell Camp Kittrell.

Pallbearers are David Little, Royce Robinson, Algie Davis, Buddy Raspberry, Leonard Bennett, and Tommy Kittrell.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 10 11:00 a.m. at Hebron Baptist Church.

The family request that in lieu of flowers that contribution be made to the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or a favorite charity such as the Salvation Army.
