Joyce Fanning

July 1, 1931 — October 1, 2024

Meridian

Joyce Fanning, 93, of Meridian, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Joyce was born to Henry E. Adams and Nettie C. (Partridge) Adams on July 1, 1931, at their home in Meridian. After high school, Joyce attended college and received her LPN certification. She began her career at Anderson Hospital, but quickly found her calling at Mattie Hersey Hospital on the OB floor. She loved caring for the babies and the new mothers. Joyce would spend her spare time quilting and embroidering baby blankets and delivering those blankets to the mothers and babies that were in need of them. She was a wonderful and caring nurse and deeply loved serving her patients. Joyce took that same love and care with her when she moved her career to East Mississippi State Hospital, where she served until her retirement.

Joyce will be remembered as wonderful and loving mother. Her pride and joy was her son, David. David enlisted in the Army in 1982, and Joyce was extremely proud of his service to our country and never missed an opportunity to commend him for it. Joyce loved embroidering, completing her word puzzles, reading her beloved novels, and was a great storyteller. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joyce is survived by her son, David Fanning and his wife, Deborah; her brother, Jack Adams and his wife, Nancy; three beloved nephews; and a legacy of three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Nettie Adams; her husband, David Houston Fanning; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hood Adams; and her nephew, Steve Adams.

Visitation for Joyce will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 5-8pm at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, beginning at 12pm in the chapel. Burial will take place in the Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery.
