Mrs. Kathleen Louise Shaffer

Services for Mrs. Kathleen Louise Shaffer will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2013 at Pine Springs Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Randy Caldwell officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shaffer, age 80, of Meridian, passed away on January 17, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Livermore, California. She attended and graduated from Biloxi High School in 1952 and attended Nurses Training in New Orleans shortly after graduation. During her time living in Biloxi she worked at several different jobs as a secretary: Biloxi Police Dept., Keesler AFB Dental Clinic, and Keesler AFB Hospital. She attended Passroad Baptist Church where she was the church secretary, day care director, and a kindergarten Teacher. In 1978 she met Donald Shaffer and was married, since Donald was in the Air Force she moved to Sacramento, CA to be with him. During those years she was a civil servant at McClellan AFB and eventually became a supervisor in her section. After Donald retired, they moved to Thousand Oaks, CA, where she was the assistant secretary, Day Care Director, and a Kindergarten teacher at Thousand Oaks Baptist Church. She loved to teach and loved filling those little sponges with knowledge. She and Donald moved to Meridian to spend more time with her children. She was a member of Pine Springs Southern Methodist Church and loved her church family greatly. She loved to oil paint and spent many hours at the Meridian Activity Center and displayed her work at Meridian Museum of Art. For the past 10 years she has lived with Parkinson Disease.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Shaffer of Meridian Sons, Sonny Thorton of Meridian, Kredrick Thorton of Biloxi, MS, and Stephen Fayard of Thousand Oaks, CA Daughter, Kathy Boudreaux of Meridian Grandsons, Freddie Junior and David Thornton of Biloxi, MS Great Grandchildren, Rayan Shaffer, Breanna Gabriel, David Jr., Caleb, Troy, Dylan and Anysha Thorton Step Sons, Daniel Shaffer of Illinois and Trent Shaffer of Meridian and a brother, Fredrick Murphy of Apple Valley, CA.
