A celebration of life ceremony for Mr. Leland W. Hughes was held on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home.
Mr. Hughes, 92, of Tuxedo, passed away on February 7, 2017 at Rush Hospital in Meridian. Mr. Hughes was retired from the GM&O Railroad. He was a fixture of downtown Meridian for years, riding his bicycle all over town. His route started at home in Tuxedo then to Jean's restaurant for coffee and pie, from there he would visit friends at the courthouse and other businesses downtown. He was a past "Mayor" of Tuxedo, being one of the older citizens of the area.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews; Edward Sheely, Joyce Hyatt, Elmer Knight Jr., Betty Jo Ables, Mary Louise Allen, Phylis Ford, Wanda Allen, Elizabeth Story, Charlotte Cermack, Loretta Hoffer, Steve Hughes, Patricia Johnson, Barbara Dennison, Charlotte Dennison, Rex Dennison, and Anderw Dennison; and by numerous great nieces and nephews.
