Mrs. Leola Belle Gibson Dawkins
Services for Mrs. Leola Belle Gibson Dawkins will be held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rob Gill, Rev. James M. Harrison, Rev. Claude Fleming and Rev. Franklin McLelland officiating. Interment will be in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dawkins passed away on February 14, 2009 at Poplar Springs Nursing Center in Meridian, MS. She retired from Austins Style Center as alterations and sales lady, after her retirement she had a alteration shop in her home and continued this service at Aldersgate Personal Care where she resided for a couple of years. She was an active member of Highland United Methodist Church for 49 years and a member of Untied Methodist Women. After moving to Aldersgate in 2006 she started attending Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church. Mrs. Dawkins was also a member of Grover Burnett Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Glenn and Wilda Gibson of Meridian, MS; Buddy and Sara Gibson of Meridian, MS; Billy and Bobbye Gibson of DeRidder, LA; Alvis and Myrtle Griffin of Dekalb, MS and Maxine Wilson of Brandon, MS. She is also survived by a host of great nieces and nephews and numerous relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn and Sarah Ida Robertson Gibson; Husband, D.A. Dawkins; Brother, Everett Gibson; Sisters, Lucille Griffin and Beatrice Wilson; nephews, Jackie Ray Gibson, Roy Gene Wilson, and Aubert Griffin.
Pallbearers will be David Rosenbaum, Bruce Martin, Jim Hollis, Glenn Gibson, Buddy Gibson, Bryant Gibson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Glenn Dees, Brown Gray, John Vincent, Leslie Phillips, Pap McElroy, Norman Samuelson, Bobby Sims, Gordon Kent, Dr. Shawn Anderson, Bob Peden, David Buntyn, and E.C. Bancroft.
Visitation will be held at Webb Funeral Home from 10:30 am until 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 17, 2009.
Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church or to the Diabetes Society.
