Lillian Price Ward

Lillian Price Ward, 94, of Meridian and Tuscaloosa, died October 6, 2011, at Heritage Health Care and Rehab in Tuscaloosa. Services will be held at Central United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, with Jim Wall officiating and Webbs Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in St. Patricks Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held beginning one hour prior to the service.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Augustus Ward her parents, Drunella and Bailey Price brothers Robert Bailey Price, Jr., John Redden Price, and James Douglas Price and sisters Kathleen Price Kean, Mary Price Pearson, and Joan Price.
She is survived by two sisters, Mildred Price Smith and Ruth Price Conway two sons, William Augustus Ward Penne and Albert Price Ward Beverly three daughters, Mary Aurelia Elliott Carl, Martina Ann Holt Tony and Loretta Carol Schmidt 14 grandchildren and 24 greatgrandchildren.
Lillian was born on December 3, 1916, in Clarke County, Mississippi. After graduation from high school, she left her home in the depths of the Great Depression to enter nurses training at Andersons Hospital in Meridian. After training, she married Gus Ward, whom she had met at the Highland Park swimming pool in Meridian. Together they raised five children in a marriage that lasted 38 years until Gus death in 1976. Lillian lived a life of loving and caring for othersher parents, her brothers and sisters, her children and grandchildren, and many patients fortunate to have been in her care. Her loved ones will cherish her memory and her example of selflessness, but they will be comforted that she now rests in the arms of her Savior and is reunited with her beloved husband Gus.
Pallbearers will be her seven grandsons and Melvin Barnette, friend of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Gerry Price Scholarship Fund, MCC Foundation, 910 Highway 19 North, Meridian, MS.
