As a young girl, Mabel enjoyed riding with her daddy in his wagon, being a tomboy, and practicing piano when it kept her from having to dust. At the age of 17, she met the love of her life, Ransom Mayfield, and promised to wait until his return from serving in World War II, which he did three long years later. On May 13, 1945, they were married and began a 5912 year love story. After retiring from Oakland Heights Baptist Church now Oak Hill Baptist in the mid90s, she loved driving from state to state, crocheting baby blankets, watching redbirds, and hearing her family laugh, which they do a lot.
