Mack Emmons, of Meridian, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. He was 85 years old. Mack was born on January 23, 1932 in Meridian, Mississippi.
Mack attended Stevenson Elementary, Southside Elementary, Kate Griffin Junior High and graduated from Meridian High School in 1949. He earned a BS in Industrial Management in 1953 from Mississippi State University. He was a member of the MSU Air Force ROTC and a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
In January 1954 he reported to active duty in the Air Force. While serving for two years in the Korean War he was stationed at bases in Texas, England and Germany. In 1956 he returned home to Meridian where he and his brother-in-law Tom Downey assumed the responsibility of operating Emmons Brothers Mattress Factory taking over for his father Rome and uncle Mack.
In 1957 he met Gloria Ann Williams and they married on March 1, 1959. He served on the Lamar School Board for 10 years and was an usher at the First Baptist Church of Meridian where he also taught 5th and 6th grade boys Sunday School for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Williams Emmons; his daughters Nancy Yarbrough and her husband Doug Yarbrough, Anna Wageman and her husband Paul Wageman, Hope Taylor and her husband Mark Taylor; his grandchildren Lance Yarbrough and his wife Dana Yarbrough, Spencer Yarbrough, Gloria Taylor, Nicholas Wageman, Mack Wageman, Mack Taylor, Caroline Wageman and Hannah Wageman; his great-grandchildren, Aaron Yarbrough and Gabbie Gunnels; and his brothers Flynt Emmons and Rome Emmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rome Augustus Emmons and Nita Flynt Emmons; his brothers, Francis Emmons, Rufus Emmons, James Emmons and Robert Emmons; and his sisters, Jane Emmons, Anita Covington, Fay Downey, Sara Emmons and Elsie Johansen.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, William Lance Yarbrough, Spencer Emmons Yarbrough, Nicholas James Wageman, Mack Emmons Wageman, Mack Emmons Taylor and also his beloved pastor Dr. Raymon Leake.
Services for Mr. Mack Emmons will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Meridian with Dr. Raymon Leake officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 - 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
